Male Price Discrimination

I promise this is the last MWSF post.

So, the download movie rentals are pretty cool, but after watching my wonderful wife sit through my going on (and on and on and on) about the benefits of different versions of video systems and why we really need that HD TV for all the new gadgets that are coming out, I think that Erica over at TUAW has this one right.

Charging a dollar more is a tax on people with a certain gene that is predominantly located in males. That is why my brain shuts off and paying $2000 for a TV almost makes sense. And as long as my wife can sit through the whole thing, we’ll wrap back around to the point where I realize that, really, we don’t watch TV anyway, so why do we really need that. *sigh* I think I’m the only gadget freak out there who doesn’t actually like to buy gadgets. I just like to drool over them when they come out.

I’m with you: I drool over gadgets all the time, and I almost never buy them. I still don’t have a cell phone, after all. But I really want to buy a lot of the new gadgets.

No way, man, I’d go for the HD version every time.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I just bought a (refurb) PS3, even though there aren’t really any PS3 games that I want to play right now, just so I could get high-def movies from Netflix instead of regular ones. (And, oh, so we can have two PS2s in the house.)

And I periodically read AVS Forum to try and get a sense for what type of stereo thing I’d want for the house, and I’m learning about all the new-fangled technology. I really don’t need new-fangled technology, because I’m just not an audiophile, but I do need a stereo, and so I read about the fancy stuff, because it exists.

    Nope, no clue here. =)
