Need To Get Out Of Dodge?

I don’t know if anyone has heard of this, I know I hadn’t. Apparently there is a non Greyhound bus service in the midwest. It is called megabus, and fares start at $1! As air travel becomes more of a pain, I am loving seeing alternate intercity transportation modes. I would really love to see an express electric train company follow much the same routes, especially if they could get some fast ICE style trains.

Still driving myself to Indy though. :/

Yup! Marty and I talked a bunch about it a while back. The US Megabus service was getting better reviews than the original British version, last I read (about 6 months ago or so). It’s super-cheap, and only takes slightly longer than just driving yourself, in theory.

I’m looking forward to hearing reviews from people I actually know. There’s a psychic cost associated with sitting in a Greyhound terminal for more than an hour, and I’m wondering how Megabus feels in comparison.

Oddly, I was talking to someone on Megabus today (on the cell phone!) and he seemed to think that it was pretty good. I may have to give it a go if I can ever figure out how to navigate Indy without a car.

There are lots of non Greyhound buses. Megabus won’t help me much since it doesn’t go to Madison. I like Van Galder (now part of Coach USA). They go from Madison to Chicago via Janesville, Beloit, and Rockford. They are friendly, courteous, and affordable. They go to the Chicago airports and downtown. They’re great.
