All In Agreement

Well at least we are all in agreement. I have never seen such a lopsided poll on CNN.com. It seems that everyone agrees that our dependence on oil decreases our security. Nonetheless, those SUVs keep selling.

One Response to “All In Agreement”

  1. Thomas Westgard Says:

They don’t even specify “oil,” the question includes all “fossil fuels,” so if some people think that using coal and natural gas threatens our security, they are included too.

It’s not so much the question, as I see it, it’s the questions that aren’t asked. Like, should we have more nuclear reactors to replace fossil fuels? Should we tax oil so that we recoup the cost of guarding oil deposits and transportation lanes with our military resources? Should we increase public funding of mass transportation? Should we depave the interstates?

Hey, I’m not saying all of those ideas are good ideas. I’m just saying that a poll on whether fossil fuels are a threat to our continued well-being isn’t much of a question anymore. The interesting questions are what to do about it.
