Thanks corvax, useful comments. ChiAnim8r, that is true, I forgot chicago elections are majority runoffs rather than plurality elections. And if he gets more than 50% in the initial election, he would have won even if there were only two candidates. So I can safely go back to my initial opinion of more choice being good.

One thing to remember about the "Aldercreature" elections. If no candidate receives 50% or more of the vote,
there is a run-off between the top 2 vote-getters. So a "split opposition" vote does not matter as long as Moore
does not get 50%.

I have to go with Alexi in the treasurer's race. he's energetic, a serious student of public and fiscal policy al policy, and obviously dedicated to public service. The only slams against him ring false--he's too young (that just means he has lots of energy and healthy ambition) and his bank made loans it shouldn't have made. Every Tribune article includes--but buries--the statement that neither Giannoulias nor the bank have been accused of any wrong-doing. There's no story there, just mud planted by political enemies or those threatened by a candidate not beholdn to party interests (altho he has the best interests of the party, and, more importnantly, the state, in mind)

Thanks, I forgot to note that, I have updated the list to indicate that. I see the Aldermanic Election as tied up with the county wide elections, which is why I included it here.

I will look forward to seeing some of these forums after Nov. 7th. I assume we will be able to find dates and times on your blog as they become available? (Well, we can find them on the candidates' pages in any case.)

Please keep in mind that the Aldermanic election isn't until Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Same as the Mayoral election.

Anyone in the 49th Ward who isn't sure where they vote on November 7 is invited to come by the Ginderske 2007 campaign office at 6970 N Sheridan Road - we have a really nice annotated map of the ward, showing all the voting places. (Everyone is welcome to come in the office too, but the map is in the shop window, facing the outdoors for easy access.) Obviously we'll update it as needed for the 2/27/2007 election that we are in.

There will be a number of candidate forums between the November and February elections, with dates, times & places TBA. In the meantime, thanks for having an eye on the 49th Ward Aldermanic race.
